Diwali 2016 brought sadness in their homes as they landed in hospitals with crackers based injuries. For them diwali brought injuries not wealth because accidentally or whatsoever reasons they have been rushed to hospitals. As Media4pillar.com collected reports from different hospitals of state, as per our report there have been more than 2000 patients landed with fire injuries in district tertiary care hospitals. Some have lost lives and some have lost vision.
As per PGIMER a total of 36 patients with firecracker related injury presented to the emergency services of Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Thirteen patients were from the tricity area, while 23 were from the neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. There were 29 males and 7 females. Fourteen patients were less than 16 years of age and 3 were less than 40 years of age. Most of the patients (19) were between 17-40 years of age. 17 patients were actually lighting the crackers when they got injured and 19 were bystanders. A total of 22 patients required surgical intervention to salvage the eye, out of which 18 have already undergone the procedure while 4 were undergoing surgery at the time of preparation of this report.
As per AIIMS 218 patients reported with fire injuries, Patiala Rajindra Hospital got 78 patients, Amritsar Hospital got 178 patients, Sirsa Government Hospital got 32 patients, Gurgaon Government Hospital got 56 patinets, Chandigarh Govt Hospital got 25 patients, DMC Hospital got 312 and so on other districts. As the State Government has already activated the eye emergencies in District Care hospitals, maximum patients have been referred to teritary care hospitals in Delhi, Chandigarh and Gurgaon. Maximum of injured patients and bystanders injured ones are stable while in all over collected reports there have been 4 patients who reported to have lost their lives in diwali night.
